Utah State Flag

About the Model

In 2024, Utah adopted a new flag, joining the old “historic” flag from 1913 featuring the State Seal on a blue field. The new flag is modern and recognizable, as well as being rich with symbolism.

The red, white, and blue colors evoke the colors of the United States. The blue is representative of the sky and lakes. The white is for the mountains and snow. The red is for Utah’s canyons and red-rock desert. The beehive has long been a state symbol, reflecting cultural values of industry and unity. The five points of the star honor the original native nations whose homeland was in Utah, and reflects Utah’s membership in the union as the 45th state.

While I’m at odds with some of our state’s politics, the way the new flag depicts the beauty of the landscape really speaks to me and I’m proud to call this beautiful place home.

About the Build

The angles of the mountain peaks and the hexagonal center proved to be the trickiest part of a brick-built representation of the Utah flag, as dark blue wedges only come in certain sizes. My favorite part is the use of the 20th Anniversary Harry Potter wands in pearl gold to build the outline on the hexagon.
